Welcome to the Market!

The Black Water Market is a multifaceted complex that includes retail shops, a restaurant space and six second-story apartments.  The corridor that runs through the building from Laurel Street to Fourth Avenue features streetscape murals depicting local history.  The Ruth Cox paintings are the largest mural exhibit in the area.  Don’t miss the chance to ring the bell from the Black Maria, the train that chugged down Main Street in the early 1900s.

The Black Water Market stands as a premier shopping complex in Conway’s historic downtown.  Originally built in the mid-1930's, a devastating fire destroyed the historic structure in 1997.  In 2000, community leader Larry Paul transferred ownership of the property to the city. Conway’s city council quickly found suitable investors to redevelop the burned-out space.  After four years of studies, planning and construction, the current structure was complete and open to the community in Fall 2004.
